I have previously mentioned artists that inspire me; though I have not really delved into detail on any one particular artist, so I wanted to start focusing more on specific artists and the inspiration that I draw from them.
Gregory Crewdson is one of my favorite current artists. Crewdson is an American-based photographer, whose photographs consist of meticulously planned shoots, where every detail carries a specific purpose. Each image captures a surreal moment in time that seems like a perfect glimpse into small-town America. The detail is so thought out, that it almost seems as though Crewdson has the luckiest timing. Though, in reality, the amount of time and perfection put into each shoot is what captures the perfect moment.
I relate to Crewdson, as I am extremely meticulous about the imagery in my photographs as well and pride myself in all of the details that you may not see the first time you see the image. Much like Crewdson, the devil is in the details and I want you to notice more details each time you see the image.
Both with my work and Crewdson’s, the final image does not always lend to how much time was spent capturing that “perfect” moment. For me though, seeing people discover all of the elements makes all of the time spent worth it.
If you haven’t checked out Crewdson’s work, even if it does not speak to you in the way, it does for me, you can at least appreciate the amount of time and dedication that he has to his craft.
